Paul Black and Kirstie Allsopp in Twitter spat after comedian's joke about young homeowners sparks reaction

Scots comedian Paul Black has found himself in a Twitter spat with TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp after making a tongue in cheek post on Twitter. Paul appeared to take a swipe at a comment Kirstie supposedly said back at the start of the year, that young people can be homeowners if they give up luxuries like coffee.

The 50-year-old said if hopeful homeowners were serious about saving up their money, they should let go of their Netflix and gym memberships as well as wasting money on coffees.

As well as giving up luxuries, she suggested young people should just move in with their parents or move 'up North' into cheaper areas if they are struggling to afford their lifestyles alongside saving for a house.

Paul is currently holidaying in Malaga with his pals and shared a snap of him and a friend in front of a swanky villa.

He sarcastically captioned the post: "Me and my fiancé just bought our first home aged 21. This is what can happen when you stop eating iced coffees and AirPods. Put down the avocado toast and grind."

Earlier this week, the Location, Location, Location star tweeted saying that she accidentally swallowed one of her airpods.

She said: “In other news I just swallowed an AirPod while downing my vitamins. I don’t recommend it. I managed to chuck it back up without having to go to hospital, but my throat is really quite sore.”

Kirstie came across Paul's tweet and replied shortly, bashing him for his comments. She wrote: "But clearly growing up and not swallowing fake news wasn’t part of the process."

Paul hit back: "What you just said to me just now was really boring Kirstie, I can Jabber with the best of them but this, you wanna get a life."

Kirstie then seemed to interact with the comments on Paul's post, and she wasn't happy. But fans were loving the Twitter feud.

One wrote: "Why is @paulbIack having beef with that woman off location, location, location… surely she has grind to be getting on with."

Another added: "She's no quiet grasping the joke or the great Scottish term 'wind up'. Send her some tickets for yer next gig."

While one said: "How did she find your tweet? Is she rage searching “air pods”??"

Paul eventually replied: "Kirstie doll I’m no getting involved."

Outrage was sparked back in February after Sunday Times published an interview with the 50-year-old.

In the interview, Kirstie said she feels 'enraged' when she hears young people complain that they can't afford to buy a house these days.

"When I bought my first property, going abroad, the EasyJet, coffee, gym, Netflix lifestyle didn't exist," she said. "I used to walk to work with a sandwich. And on payday I'd go for a pizza, and to a movie, and buy a lipstick."

The presenter acknowledged that interest rates were much lower today but added that there were 'new drains on the finances' of today's young first-time buyers.

Kirstie also insisted that streaming services, foreign holidays and gym memberships were now seen as standard parts of young people's lives - but that was not the case when she was younger.

"I don't want to belittle those people who can't do it," the presenter went on. "But there are loads of people who can do it and don't. It is hard.

"We've fallen into the trap of saying it's impossible for everybody. It's about where you can buy, not if you can buy. There is an issue around the desire to make those sacrifices.

"I’m up in Nottingham right now and there’s a nice three-bedroom home with a long garden on for £320,000. I get enraged when people say they can’t afford to buy. They can.

"But they have to move, which is hard if you don’t have roots there. I know there are many who can’t afford to buy, but others are not willing to make the sacrifices."

Kirstie went on: "Ask yourself, could you get a job, live at home with your parents for three years, and save every penny for a deposit? I’ve seen people do it. They make enormous sacrifices. It’s not impossible for everybody."
