Patty Jenkins Revives 'Rogue Squadron' Script Development For 'Star Wars'

Star Wars-FanArt

Patty Jenkins' 'Star Wars' movie 'Rogue Squadron' may not be dead after all. Initially announced in late 2020 with a planned December 2023 release, the project was unexpectedly removed from Disney's release schedule in September 2022. Reports indicated that 'Rogue Squadron' was no longer in active development at Lucasfilm. However, in a recent podcast interview, Jenkins revealed that she is back in the process of developing the script for the film.

Following the cancellation of her planned 'Wonder Woman 3' project at Warner Bros. and DC Studios, Jenkins expressed her renewed commitment to 'Rogue Squadron.' She explained that a deal had been struck with Lucasfilm for her return to the 'Star Wars' universe after completing 'Wonder Woman 3.' Despite the setback with the DC project, Jenkins is now focused on delivering a script for 'Rogue Squadron.'

While the official confirmation of 'Rogue Squadron' is still pending, Jenkins emphasized her enthusiasm for the project, stating that she would be 'absolutely' happy to bring the story to life. She highlighted the emotional resonance of the 'Star Wars' universe and expressed her desire to create something that honors and serves its dedicated fan base.

The delay in 'Rogue Squadron' was partly attributed to Jenkins' involvement in the third installment of the 'Wonder Woman' franchise. However, news emerged in December 2022 that 'Wonder Woman 3' had been shelved after Warner Bros. leadership declined Jenkins' treatment for the sequel. Jenkins clarified that she had not voluntarily walked away from the project but acknowledged the challenges faced by DC Studios amidst significant organizational changes.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding her future with the 'Wonder Woman' series, Jenkins affirmed her commitment to 'Rogue Squadron.' She acknowledged the complexities of the filmmaking industry and expressed understanding towards the decisions made by studio executives. Jenkins, known for directing both 'Wonder Woman' and 'Wonder Woman 1984,' remains a prominent figure in Hollywood, particularly as one of the leading female directors in the industry.

As Jenkins continues to work on the script for 'Rogue Squadron,' fans eagerly await further updates on the status of the project. Her dedication to delivering a compelling narrative within the beloved 'Star Wars' universe reflects her passion for storytelling and commitment to engaging audiences with captivating cinematic experiences.
