Patsy Palmer left This Morning viewers unimpressed as she made an 'embarrassing' mistake. The former EastEnders actress appeared on the ITV daytime show as she was revealed as the first celebrity contestant for Dancing On Ice 2023.
Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were back at the helm of This Morning on Monday (October 3) and they were quick to share that they could reveal the first star of the ITV skating competition, which they also host, ahead of its return in January.
After a bit of teasing and clue dropping throughout the daytime programme, Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, were finally able to make the announcement and revealed that actress and DJ Patsy would be donning ice skates in the New Year.
Speaking to Holly and Phillip, Patsy said of her reason for signing up for the show: "Out of all the things that came through at that time, this was the one that I had to really think about. I wanted to challenge myself, get back to work, get out of my comfort zone.
"And I just thought 'Oh I'll just go for it', it seems like a lot of fun and I do love ice skating but I'm not an ice skater!" Phillip then revealed that Patsy had been asked to do the show in the past but had previously turned it down.
The former EastEnders star explained: "Yes, I know! Because I've been absolutely terrified before, but the pact I made with myself before I was 50 years old this year was 'I have to do things that challenge myself for the next couple of years.' It's such a weird age, so yeah, this is for all of the 50-year-olds who think they can't challenge themselves!"
But it appears the announcement has come as quite a surprise to fans of the show. @IHeartBibbyx said: "OMG DOI TIME OF YEAR AGAINNNNNNNNN." @LeahXBarnes tweeted: "Wooooo my other fave show is coming back soon!!!!"
During their chat with Patsy, it was also brought up that she is now based in LA. "I am going to come back but I'll be training in Los Angeles so I feel really blessed about that. That's another reason it worked out this time because they said there's a rink in Los Angeles so I can train here so that's fantastic and I don't have to be away from the kids for too long."
Phillip then remarked: "There's going to be a pro who's going to be thrilled that they get a bit of training time, coming from her and going over there." But things got awkward when Patsy replied: "I'm sure if they have to travel to here but I'm sure they have a lot of pros here."
"Not your specialist ones," Phillip replied. "Not our famous ones!" Holly then interjected and said: "We'll have to wait and see," before moving on to talk about the show's draw because of skating legends Torvill and Dean. But things got more awkward when Patsy dropped a bit of a clanger.
As Holly said; "Since you've been little, you've been a big fans of theirs," the former Bianca Jackson actress replied: "Yeah, that's kind of all we had when we were little. When it came on, it was a big thing when they did that... I don't even know what year that was when they did their big dance was it like a Tango or something like that?"
Phillip chipped in: "You mean the big Bolero?" to which she said: "Yeah, that's it! It was just exciting. All those things were exciting when we were kids. We didn't have a lot of choices so I wish we could go back to that now for our children."
But the mistake didn't go down well. @Crazier tweeted: "#ThisMorning Torvill and Deans Tango? Really! Tango!!" @TheIntoxicatedJ remarked: "Such a big fan that she didn't even know their famous dance #ThisMorning." @cookiejoe said: "Tango ffs how embarrassing #ThisMorning."
@mostlystupid commented: "All Patsy Palmer is doing on this discussion about #DancingOnIce is proving that despite knowing it's about ice-skating, she knows f**k-all about the show #ThisMorning." @WalfordWeekly shared: "Patsy Palmer has just announced for ‘Dancing on Ice’ next year and amusingly she doesn’t seem to have a clue about the show! #EastEnders #ThisMorning."
Meanwhile, fans have figured out who Patsy's professional partner could already be like @gazpen who said: "I'll be shocked if she doesn't get @TheMattEvers as I'm sure he based in LA too or there about."
