After suffering a fourth straight loss in Week 5, the New England Patriots announced that they will start rookie quarterback Drake Maye for Sunday’s Week 6 game against the Houston Texans.
Maye was selected with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He saw action in multiple appearances in the preseason. He made his regular-season debut in the second half of the Patriots’ Week 3 game against the New York Jets. when he went 4-of-8 passing for 22 yards on one drive.
The Patriots offense currently ranks last in the NFL with 119.4 passing yards per game. Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett has also been sacked 19 times, which is second-most in the NFL.
Maye will face an uphill challenge with the Patriots offense struggling to find a rhythm. At the very least, the organization will begin to see what he can do in a full game situation.
