Patriots to Sign Wide Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, per Report

Former Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is expected to sign with the Patriots, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday.

His reported three-year deal is worth $33 million, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler added. The receiver won’t officially sign a deal until 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday when the league year begins.

Smith-Schuster seemingly confirmed the deal on Twitter shortly after the news dropped by expressing his excitement to join the Patriots, followed by a gif of the team’s flag.

“Excited for my next chapter in New England!” Smith-Schuster wrote. “I will give this organization everything I have, thank you for believing in me!”

This news comes one day after former Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers, the team’s leading receiver in 2022, agreed to join the Raiders next season. Smith-Schuster will become a key receiver for Patriots quarterback Mac Jones.

Smith-Schuster spent just one season with the Chiefs, in which he helped the team to a Super Bowl LVII title. In 16 games last season, he caught 78 out of 101 passes for 933 yards and three touchdowns.

The former Chiefs player might not be the only new receiver coming to New England. A report from The Athletic’s Jeff Howe on Wednesday noted that the Patriots also have interest in Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins and Broncos’ Jerry Jeudy, and the team reportedly attended wideout Odell Beckham Jr.’s workout last week.
