Patriots Super Bowl legend shares honest opinion of Josh McDaniels as OC

New England Patriots legendary running back James White believes former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels should return to work under Mike Vrabel.

He stated his case on an episode of “The Money Down Podcast.”

“I think he should, honestly. …I know people like to say his offense may be outdated or whatnot, but I don’t think it is,” said White. “The versatility that he brings to the table, like we could switch things up from week to week. I don’t know how many offenses do that.

“…One week we may run it 90 percent of the time, or one week we may throw it 90 percent of the time depending on what defense we’re going up against. …I do think as far as Josh, him with Drake Maye—you saw what he did for Mac Jones’ rookie season. I think he’ll help him understand the game even more. Slow things down for him and really take his game to that next level.”

White played his entire career with McDaniels as his offensive coordinator. He excelled in the offense by winning three Super Bowl titles and cementing his place as a member of the New England Patriots All-Dynasty Team.

There would certainly be a level of familiarity with a McDaniels return to the sidelines. He would help in the development of Maye, who will be entering a pivotal second season.

The Patriots are not going to rush the coaching search process. However, it would be fair to say that McDaniels is at the top of their list of potential offensive candidates.
