The offensive backfield for the New England Patriots received a major boost on Monday with the announcement that former three-time Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott is expected to sign with the team.
Adding another dynamic playmaker at the running back position was a major need for the Patriots with Ty Montgomery and Pierre Strong Jr. both working their way back from injuries. Elliott gives the team another sledgehammer in the offensive backfield to help take some of the load off Rhamondre Stevenson.
It was always going to be interesting to see how Patriots fans would react to the team finally locking down a marquee skilled position player after teases with wideout DeAndre Hopkins and even running back Dalvin Cook.
Elliott will join the team immediately on their road trip to Green Bay for joint practices, followed by a Saturday preseason game against the Packers. Here’s what Patriots social media is saying about the team’s newest acquisition.
