New England Patriots safety Jabril Peppers is excited about the addition of Jaylinn Hawkins.
Hawkins was signed by the organization back in March in hopes of adding more veteran safety depth to an already-loaded position. He most recently played with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he recorded 14 tackles and a pass deflection last season.
Now, he joins a Patriots safety group that’s expected to be one of the best in the NFL.
Peppers factors heavily into the equation considering he’s formed quite the one-two punch at the top of the depth chart, next to Kyle Dugger. He is pleased with what he’s seen from Hawkins to this point.
“Oh, man, that guy, effort all day,” Peppers told media members. “He just doesn’t stop. I think he won the—got the most points for practice. Running to the ball, getting his hands on the ball, punching at the ball. Guy got a high motor, smart. Very versatile. He fit right in from the first day. So we’re happy to have him.”
Hawkins brings a strong skill set to the table for a Patriots defense that is going to be amongst the best in the NFL this season. How he’s utilized and rotated in the mix will be something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks at training camp.
