During the New England Patriots' matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, rookie quarterback Drake Maye was evaluated for a head injury after a blow to the helmet in the first quarter. The incident occurred as Maye was scrambling near the sideline on third down of the Patriots' first possession when he was hit by Chargers cornerback Cam Hart.
Following the hit, Maye remained on the turf for a brief period before getting up and jogging off the field under his own power. He then underwent evaluation in the medical tent on the sideline. Subsequently, Maye was replaced by backup Jacoby Brissett for the next series, which concluded with a punt.
After further assessment in the locker room, Maye made a return to the game during the Patriots' third series at the 10:15 mark of the second quarter. This marks Maye's second injury scare, as he was previously sidelined during the Patriots' Week 8 victory over the New York Jets due to a head injury.
Despite the setback, Maye's return to the game demonstrates his resilience and determination to contribute to his team's efforts. The Chargers currently hold a 10-0 lead as the game progresses.
