Much has been made about a potential New England Patriots starting quarterback battle. Jacoby Brissett is the veteran projected to start, while Drake Maye is the rookie trying to make a name for himself.
Patriots coach Jerod Mayo feels confident that Maye is ready to run the offense. The rookie is taking everything in stride considering the open competition at quarterback remains with only one preseason game left on the schedule.
“You know, I think I’m just gonna take advantage of my opportunities,” Maye said after Wednesday’s practice. “Jacoby’s done a great job. Great player, great teammate. Taking reps with the ones the whole time. I’m excited for him. Just trying to take advantage of the reps I do get, and when I’m in there, try to have some fun.”
Asked if Sunday night might be a final push to win the starting QB job, Drake Maye says his focus is to take advantage of any opportunity he gets while acknowledging that Jacoby Brissett has taken all the reps with the 1s and has been a great teammate to him. pic.twitter.com/vNE18KeJmn

Sunday’s preseason finale against the Washington Commanders could be telling as to how the quarterback situation will turn out for New England. A good performance from Maye could make for an even tougher decision for the coaching staff.
