A familiar face could be targeted as the next wide receivers coach for the New England Patriots.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the team is reportedly considering bringing in former Miami Dolphins receivers coach and Patriots legend Wes Welker for the job.
Wes Welker was an integral part of the Patriots organization for many years as a player. He caught 672 passes for 7,459 yards and 37 touchdowns during his run with the team from 2007-2012.
The Patriots parted ways with Tyler Hughes after the 2024 season, leaving an opening for a new assistant. Reiss wrote:
Wes Welker, who coached receivers in San Francisco (2019-21) and Miami (2022-24), is among the options the Patriots have considered, according to league sources. Welker’s coaching career began in Houston under Bill O’Brien in 2017, when Vrabel was defensive coordinator.
Welker wouldn’t be a bad option considering his previous work with star receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. A Patriots reunion could ultimately prove beneficial for both sides.
