Patriots reportedly agree to re-sign CB Jonathan Jones to two-year deal

The New England Patriots have reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with longtime veteran cornerback Jonathan Jones, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

It’s a much-needed signing for the Patriots in an effort to keep their defensive backfield intact, following the departure of legendary safety Devin McCourty.

Jones showed the versatility to play both inside and outside last season. The hope is that he can continue to lead by example in a year where Jack Jones and Marcus Jones are expected to take big leaps on defense. New England still has Jalen Mills on the roster as well.

Monday started with the Patriots trading tight end Jonnu Smith away to the Atlanta Falcons, and now, they’re keeping Jonathan Jones for at least another two seasons.

Considering cornerback was one of the biggest areas of need for the team, it isn’t a bad start to the week for the Patriots.
