Patriots QB Mac Jones gets injury update ahead of Bears game

There is hope that the New England Patriots will have their starting quarterback, Mac Jones, back under center for their Monday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears in Week 7.

But then again, we’ve heard the same thing for multiple weeks as the second-year quarterback tries to work his way back from a high ankle sprain. Jones actually made the road trip in an effort to play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6.

He still isn’t 100 percent healthy, but his goal is to get back on the field with his team against the Bears.

“Mac Jones is currently at 85-to-90 percent, according to a source,” Pro Football Focus’ Doug Kyed posted on Wednesday morning. “It’s up to the team whether or not he plays Monday against the Bears. He’s been open to playing through the ankle injury.”

If the Patriots need Jones to beat the Bears, then they have bigger problems on their hands. It makes no sense to force him back into the lineup injured, especially when rookie Bailey Zappe is already playing so well under center.

Granted, it does make sense why Jones would want to hurry back out on the field. Zappe-mania running wild isn’t exactly good for his career, particularly when some are calling for him to be replaced as a starter.

He’d much rather silence the Zappe noise before it gets even louder.
