New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe wants to improve on his first start, as New England looks to end their losing streak.
When speaking with to the media, the second-year signal-caller indicated that he would get the start against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, without saying so directly. That has caused him to reflect a bit on his performance on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers and how he can be better.
It was a decent outing with him going 13-of-25 for 141 passing yards and no interceptions. He averaged 5.6 yards per throw and had his highest quarterback rating of the season.
Nevertheless, the Patriots were not able to get into the end zone and were shut out offensively for the second time this season. The former Western Kentucky product wants to work on a specific area of his game, as transcribed by NESN.com’s Zack Cox.
“There were some missed reads by me, some missed throws by me,” said Zappe. “There were some things that I can (improve) — better ball placement, things like that. So I’ve just been working on that stuff as much as possible today and tomorrow before we head off and try to get ready for Thursday.”
These next couple of games could be important with the Patriots trying to make sense of their quarterback situation. A good game from Zappe could go a long way for an offense that appears to be struggling on a weekly basis.
