The New England Patriots have been doing research into the top-end options going into free agency, even with their limited cap space. For example, they’ve looked into the best receiver on the market, Allen Robinson, according to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi — along with the best linebackers set to hit free agency.
New England has about $13.5 million in cap space, and could open up even more space by extending and/or restructuring contracts. If they wanted a top-end free agent, like cornerback J.C. Jackson (or other out-of-house candidates), the Patriots could make room for that special standout. So will the Patriots chase one big splash in free agency — like they did when they signed Stephon Gilmore? And if they do go after one player at a key position, who might it be?
