Patriots Penalized By NFL For Violation of Offseason Rules, per Report

The Patriots were docked two days of voluntary organized team activities by the NFL after a violation of offseason rules, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

The specific violation was not made clear in the report, however, New England is expected to be stripped of two of its OTA sessions as a result of the breach of league rules.

The Patriots will forgo the OTA which was scheduled for Thursday, May 25, and will also lose out on another session the following week, in what will be the final week of the team’s offseason program. The team reportedly intends to resume OTAs next Wednesday.

Thursday’s OTA was set to be the first with reporters in attendance.

New England has 10 OTAs on its slate this offseason. Contact is not permitted in the voluntary team activities, and the NFLPA has representatives in attendance to monitor for any rules violations.

The Patriots had announced earlier on Wednesday that Thursday’s OTA had been canceled, though they didn’t provide a reason for that decision.

Last offseason, multiple teams, including the BearsTexansCommanders and Cowboys were deemed to have violated offseason rules and were issued similar penalties.
