New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo has had a difficult season with the team currently sitting with a 3-7 record. However, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and team president Jonathan Kraft “remain solidly behind Mayo,” per NFL insider Albert Breer.
“My understanding is they remain solidly behind Jerod Mayo,” said Breer. “They have sympathy for some of the things he’s had to deal with this year. Some of the noise on the outside, obviously the roster is what it is.”
That would mean Mayo will likely return to coach for the team in 2025. This isn’t a one-and-done situation for the first-year head coach.
Hopefully, he can build some momentum from the team’s impressive 19-3 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 10. The pieces of the rebuild are starting to come together, and the team seems to be getting better down the stretch.
That starts largely with the play of rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who has adjusted to the starting quarterback role at a high level in recent weeks. There is still plenty of season to be had for a Patriots team looking to find its identity on both sides of the ball.
Bringing back Mayo in 2025 would at least provide stability for the upcoming season as the organization looks to find success in the post-Bill Belichick era.
