Patriots’ Jalen Mills Gives Harsh Assessment of Defense Allowing Only Six Points

The Patriots added another lowlight to their season on Sunday after slogging their way to another ugly loss that underscored just how badly the team has struggled in 2023.

New England’s latest lackluster effort saw the Patriots (2–10) fall to the Chargers by a final score of 6–0 after failing to build any momentum in all three phases. And, while the entire team deserved blame, Patriots cornerback Jalen Mills made his displeasure in his group’s effort perfectly clear post-game.

When asked if the defense did enough in Week 13, Mills offered a candidly harsh assessment of the day.

“No. They scored six points. We lost by six. Not enough,” Mills said, per WEEI.

Although Mills’s honest admission may be a hard pill to swallow, few would contest just how spot on the veteran was. Not to mention, the sting of Sunday’s outcome was made worse by the fact that the club outpaced the Chargers in total offense, 257 to 241 yards.

With Week 13 in the rearview mirror, though, Mills, the Pats defense and the rest of the lineup will have only a few more opportunities to try to learn from their mistakes as they’ll now look to rebound in Week 14 from their second shutout defeat of the season.
