Patriots insider floats trade consideration with No. 4 draft pick

If the New England Patriots had an opportunity to trade the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft for Cleveland Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett, that’s a move NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran believes the team should consider making.

Garrett requested a trade from the Browns in a public statement. The Patriots could be in the market for an elite pass-rusher, and Garrett would upgrade their defense significantly.

“He would, to me, be worthy of considering giving up the fourth overall pick for,” Curran said on WEEI’s “Jones and Keefe,” as transcribed by NESN.com’s Gayle Troiani. “Say Myles Garrett says, ‘I’ll go to this team, that team, that team, that team,’ and the Patriots are able to put a structure together, I would include the fourth overall pick for him and not bat an eye about paying him because he is that good.”

Garrett is coming off a 2024 season that saw him record 14 sacks and 47 combined tackles. He also had 28 quarterback hits. He made the Pro Bowl for the eighth year in a row and continues to be one of the most feared pass-rushers in the NFL.

In 2023, he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Curran indicated that the fourth overall selection for Garrett would be reasonable given that he believes the Patriots would not land a generational talent if they drafted a player.

Although Curran believes the Patriots’ chances of getting Garrett are “low,” he does think the defender is worthy of the high draft pick.

New England could use a dominant pass-rusher like Garrett, as they recorded only 28 sacks on the year. Patriots Wire’s Jordy McElroy mocked the scenario in a recent seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft.

Sure, it’s a far-fetched scenario, but it isn’t an impossible one.
