New England Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux gave a lofty comparison to rookie quarterback Drake Maye, following the Patriots’ 20-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
The veteran defender compared the rookie to Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen.
Maye has some of the traits Allen possesses. For one, the rookie’s strong arm has been evident in games this season. The North Carolina product also boasts the ability to run with the football, and he has totaled 212 rushing yards in five game appearances on the year.
He also has the same gunslinging mentality as Allen.
“That’s young Josh Allen 2.0. He looks amazing,” Godchaux said in Sunday’s post-game press conference. “I love watching him on the sideline…I tell the guys all the time that he plays like Josh Allen 2.0. I played Josh Allen in Miami his rookie year, and he didn’t look that good, and Josh Allen is a phenomenal player now. MVP-type player. Drake looks better than Josh did his rookie year.”

Allen has blossomed into a perennial MVP candidate throughout his tenure in the NFL. Maye could potentially get there as well, as he has shown flashes of his playmaking ability in his rookie season.
The organization will need to continue to build around him, but it is evident the talent is there.
