A lopsided victory for the New England Patriots over the Detroit Lions on Sunday has the team breathing new life. Defensive lineman Davon Godchaux especially wanted to crush the Lions for what he deemed as a disrespectful act by the team during the game.
It was still early in the game on a fourth-and-inches play with the ball on the Lions’ 45-yard line. That’s a situation where most teams would punt the ball and avoid the possibility of putting their defense in bad field position.
But the Lions were so confident in their offense that coach Dan Campbell left the team out there, and they attempted to go for it. Godchaux didn’t appreciate that approach one bit.
He even went as far as calling it “very insulting.”
“If you go for it on fourth-and-1 on your side of the field, I think that’s a sign of disrespect,” Godchaux said, via NESN’s Zack Cox. “… I feel like as a defensive lineman, it’s disrespectful.”
The Patriots held the Lions to 0-for-6 in fourth-down conversions. So they clearly made them pay for the aggressive offensive approach throughout the game.
If the Lions or anyone disrespected the Patriots defense heading into Sunday’s game, it’s hard to imagine anyone else doing so now, especially after watching that 29-0 shellacking.
