Patriots defense making a habit of getting people fired or demoted

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson’s recent demotion is proof that bad things happen when facing the New England Patriots defense this season.

Following the Patriots holding Wilson and the offense to only 103 total yards in Week 11, Coach Robert Saleh announced on Wednesday that the No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft would not be starting in the team’s upcoming game against the Chicago Bears.

Not only is he not starting, but he isn’t even going to be the backup for the game. Mike White has been green lit to start for the Jets with veteran quarterback Joe Flacco serving as the backup.

It’s the third time this season that a player or coach has either been demoted or outright fired after facing the Patriots defense.

It was a little over two weeks ago that the Indianapolis Colts offense got absolutely destroyed in a 26-3 loss at Gillette Stadium. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger was sacked nine times and held to only 103 yards passing.

Things got so bad that owner Jim Irsay was reportedly on the phone with now interim head coach Jeff Saturday during the game. Frank Reich was fired as the head coach after that meeting, and Ehlinger lost the starting job he had briefly earned.

The Patriots are facing a lot of questions offensively, but they clearly have a championship-caliber defense that can ruin an offensive game plan. Wilson went from being the golden boy for the Jets to now facing a career crossroads after two meetings with New England.

It’s a terrifying reminder of the depth of talent on the roster and the masterful coaching mind of Bill Belichick overseeing it.
