Patriots decline WR N’Keal Harry’s fifth-year option

The New England Patriots declined receiver N’Keal Harry’s fifth-year option.

Every first-round rookie has a clause in their contract that allows teams to opt into a fifth year of their deal, which would pay the player at the average of the third through 25th highest salaries at a player’s position (for players, like Harry, who were selected from picks 11 to 32). It makes perfect sense that Harry, who has demanded a trade and has been an all-around disappointment for New England, would not get that fifth-year option.

During his time with the Patriots, he has 57 catches for 598 yards and four touchdowns. He is one of the biggest first-round busts in Bill Belichick’s tenure as the Patriots coach and general manager.
