Patriots coach Jerod Mayo takes blame for noise surrounding team

New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo is keeping the focus on the New York Jets on Sunday, as the Patriots look to turn the page from the 32-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7.

Media reports have continued to focus on Mayo calling the team “soft” after the loss, but it’s clear the coach wants to move on. He has already walked back the comment, and now, he is taking full responsibility for the distractions.

“I always take this opportunity to speak with [the media] really with the understanding that I’m talking to the players,” Mayo told media members. “Obviously, there are things when I’m talking to the fans as well. But the message for those guys is it’s all about the Jets, and we’re moving forward.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of noise out there, and we are what our record is. We have to get better, and that ultimately is my responsibility. I take all of the blame. It’s fine. Moving on to the Jets.”

There’s no question it’s been a rough week for the Patriots in the media with former players and even former coach Bill Belichick questioning the way the team is being handled.

Now, it’s all about the Patriots trying to salvage whatever is left of the season. A win over the Jets would certainly be a step in the right direction.
