Patriots appear to be leading DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes

The New England Patriots are very much in on the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes, according to a new report from ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio.

“I believe so. There’s mutual interest,” said Paolantonio, when asked if New England is the likely destination for Hopkins, via 247Sports’ Brad Stainbrook on Tuesday. “Bill likes him—Bill Belichick likes DeAndre Hopkins, likes his game. And DeAndre Hopkins likes the situation in New England, knows Bill O’Brien. It’s a perfect fit at a time when they need a wide receiver that can get separation. They need somebody like that.”

However, other teams, including the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers, have begun to emerge as possible suitors as well. Both of those organizations would be interesting fits. Carolina is entering into a new era, led by rookie quarterback Bryce Young. Cleveland has a star quarterback in Deshaun Watson, and Hopkins could help Cleveland take the top spot in the AFC North.

This report bodes well for New England, as they have remained in the conversation for Hopkins at multiple points this offseason. Things began to turn in the Patriots’ favor after Hopkins visited New England well over a week ago.

It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out. New England could use a top weapon like Hopkins, as they look to find the missing piece offensively.
