Patrick Vieira makes FA Cup assertion following Everton draw and prepares for Wolves clash

Patrick Vieira has asserted that Crystal Palace won’t be taking their eyes off the Premier League despite reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Eagles will face Everton at Selhurst Park in the last eight, but first have Premier League fixtures against Everton and Manchester City to contend with as they seek to improve on a run of just one win in their last eight league games.

Vieira has previously said he is not worried about being pulled into a relegation fight with the team currently nine points clear of the drop and has said his focus is on trying to get the best out of his players who have been short of consistency at times this season.

Positive results against Wolves and City - both sides who Palace have already beaten once this season - would go a long way to getting the team mentally prepared for the Everton game though the manager said the team are not getting carried away.

“We wanted to have a really good run in the FA Cup and so far it has been good but still the game to come against Everton and a long way to go,” he told reporters on Friday afternoon.

“We don’t want to get carried away or be too excited for it but we are pleased with where we are but we still know there are massive games to play before the FA Cup.

“In the league, the games coming before will be massively important for us because we need points, we need wins.”

Vieira and his squad have already begun their journey to Wolverhampton where they’ll stay overnight before heading across to Molineux tomorrow.

Bruno Lage’s side have lost their last two games against Arsenal and West Ham but have still impressed this season and currently sit eighth on 40 points.

The Eagles beat Wolves 2-0 in the reverse fixture at Selhurst Park back in November, with Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher both getting on the scoresheet.

“This is a team who has been doing really well,” added Vieira. “When you look at the table, they are fighting for this European spot. We played them at home and had a really good game. This will be no different and we will have to be at our best if we want to get something from there.

“This is a team who technically are really comfortable in possession, we have to defend well as a team, work hard as a team and of course when we have possession we have to use it well to create situations and score goals.”
