Patrick Vieira happy Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha ‘kept his cool’ after tough Leeds treatment

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira was happy star forward Wilfried Zaha “kept his cool” during Monday night’s draw with Leeds.

A 0-0 draw proved a competitive contest under the lights at Selhurst Park, with a number of strong challenges flying in all evening.

Zaha has frequently been targeted over the course of his Premier League career and came closest scoring, seeing a powerful shot well-saved by Illan Meslier.

The Ivory Coast international made his 273rd appearance in the top flight, moving level with Kanu and behind only Kolo Toure and Shola Ameobi as the only African players to have played more games.

Palace remain 14th on 38 points before traveling to Southampton on Saturday as Vieira looks to finish a promising first campaign at the club as strongly as possible.

“I was pleased and happy with the determination we showed. We just lacked that bit of quality to score those goals,” said Vieira after the game.

“I was happy Wilf Zaha kept his cool because it looked like they planned to stop him by fouling him. That won’t be the first time teams try to frustrate him.

“The team deserved more than just the point.”
