Patrick Vieira calms Crystal Palace fears with Wilfried Zaha committed until the summer

Patrick Vieira admits he can understand the concern among Crystal Palace fans about their recent poor run, but is confident his struggling side will turn things around.

Palace were dumped out of the FA Cup by rock-bottom Southampton on Saturday, as they were beaten 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

It was their third successive home defeat, following a 4-0 loss against Tottenham last week and a 3-0 reverse against Fulham on Boxing Day.

Palace now face a tough run of games, starting away at Chelsea on Sunday, before home games against Manchester United and Newcastle this month.

Palace manager Vieira said: “Of course, that is normal after losing the last three home games and conceding so many goals, you have to be concerned. If we are not concerned, that means we are not [connected] with reality.

“I know that the result at the end is important, but there are some important elements in what we are proposing to believe that we can turn things around, because of the support we have at home, of course, but the quality that we show at times.

“If we manage to be more consistent in the games and go to a different level in our mindset, we can turn those performances into wins.”

Palace could look to strengthen their squad during this month’s transfer window and expect Wilfried Zaha to see out his contract and remain at the club for the remainder of the season.

Zaha is in the final six months of his deal and can talk to overseas clubs about a free transfer in the summer. But the 30-year-old, who has interest from Barcelona and Juventus, remains committed to staying at Palace until his contract runs out.
