Patrick Stewart on Rangers' external review: Timeline, process, progression

Rangers' Chief Executive Officer Patrick Stewart has provided an update on the club's external review.

New York-based consultancy group Sportsology have been hired to help get to the root of some of the apparent problems at Ibrox and improve all aspects of the club.

Stewart recently conducted a lengthy sit-down interview with Rangers TV, in which he spoke about Philippe Clement's future and desire to appoint a sporting director.

He also went over the club's external review and how it is advancing: "The review is progressing well," he said.

"We have got a lot of insights into things that are going well and not well at Auchenhowie. I would really compliment the staff and how open and honest they've been.

"And they provided really valuable feedback to myself and also the consultants we've got on supporting with it. And we're beginning to get some real tangible insights that are flowing into real recommendations that we're starting to action."

Stewart is the CEO and isn't one of the key players in the review.

He outlined why it is being carried out, nonetheless. He said: "I was hired to run a football club. To do a deep-rooted review of a football operation that's a lot of work.

"So the external support I've got has spent literally hundreds of hours speaking to people at Auchenhowie, doing research, benchmarking against other clubs. If I was doing that, or if I was even getting the support of my management team, we wouldn't be doing anything to run the football club. So we've got to do both in parallel. So it's really important we've had that support.

"But also critically, they provide an external viewpoint on things. So we're not just approaching this through a Rangers lens. As I said, we want to do things differently. We don't want to avoid making the same mistakes repeatedly."

With a few months of the season remaining, while Stewart didn't give a specific timeline for the review's completion, he expects it to be finished in tandem with the 2024/25 campaign.

He said: "I expect the external support on the football review to taper down as the season tapers down.

"But the football review will not ever end. This is about constant evolution. We started this review to kickstart that process. But again, if we're going to compete, we need to, like any elite football club, be constantly improving."
