Patrick Schwarzenegger auditioned for Superman

Patrick Schwarzenegger auditioned to play Superman.

The 'White Lotus' actor submitted a self-tape to take on the lead role for James Gunn's upcoming superhero tale - which eventually went to David Corenswet - but didn't even receive any notes on his try-out.

Appearing on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, Patrick was asked: “Have you done more than your share of superhero auditions in your career?”

He replied: “No, I haven’t."

The 31-year-old star explained his three auditions in the superhero world were for Luke Riordan/Golden Boy in 'Gen V', which he booked, Homelander in 'The Boys', and 'Superman'.

Asked if he'd got into costume for the latter, he replied: “No, I don’t think I got any feedback. I think it was like, ‘No, not for you'."

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the 'Staircase' actor has had just two in-person auditions, for 'American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez', in which he played Tim Tebow, and 'The Idea of You', as most casting sessions are now held over Zoom.

He said: “It’s just one person on the screen and when they talk, they’re on it and then you talk and it switches to you.

"So, it’s really weird doing a scene with someone because sometimes they’ll be mid talk and you say something, and it’ll switch to you and then it’s really distracting and weird.”

Patrick - who is the son of 'Terminator' legend Arnold Schwarzenegger and his ex-wife Maria Shriver - recently admitted he related to his 'White Lotus' character's struggle of "living in [his] father's shadows".

The actor, who plays Saxon Ratliff, the eldest offspring of a rich businessman, in the latest season of the satire told Vanity Fair magazine: "I think there are similarities and crossovers there, except this family is so far away from what my family was growing up—or probably any normal family is.

"But whenever I read a script or a character, I always try to think about the where, when, and why about the character, and what his relationship is to different individuals, and the background and the backstory that he's from.

"You try to think of different similarities or differences that you have in your own personal life: things you can draw on and through to bring elements of this character to life.

"There was a storyline that I related to, and resonated with, of living in the father's shadows. This character had a very successful family, a very successful father. He worked under his father; he was always trying to make a name for himself, make a path for himself, was constantly vying for his dad's attention and acceptance and approval.

"I wouldn't say they're directly the same as mine, but there are definitely elements of it that I could draw upon."
