Patrick Reed opens up on "going at it" with UK fans after shushing LIV London crowd

Patrick Reed has revealed he enjoyed the back and forth 'banter' with the UK crowd at LIV Golf's London event, and is looking forward to more at the upcoming Open Championship.

Reed has often found himself at the centre of player-crowd interaction, but it has not always been positive. The American has played pantomime villain with European crowds, infamously 'shushing' the home crowd at the 2014 and 2018 Ryder Cup.

And at this week's LIV event on British soil, Reed once again pulled out the crowd shush, albeit in a much more comical way this time around. This came whilst Reed was playing alongside former European rivals, turned LIV colleagues Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter in Saturday's second round.

The smiling 4Aces star was clearly enjoying himself with the Centurion crowd, and it appeared to only help his game, as he secured a second place finish behind Cam Smith in the individual standings, whilst also securing the team title.

Paying tribute to the fans post-tournament, Reed said: "Yesterday was fun already, hearing 'Europe' the whole time, and Captain America had to go kind of step on it a little bit yesterday, but then today - it's one thing I love about the fans over here is they love to have friendly banter back and forth."

"They'll give it to you. They expect you to give it back, and if you do, it just makes the day a lot more fun, makes the crowds more engaged." The American has not always held the greatest relationship with the galleries, but it appears the interaction on the breakaway circuit is much more enjoyable for the 2018 Masters champion.

Reed's time on British soil is not over, as he heads to Hoylake next week for the Open Championship. And whilst the atmosphere is somewhat different to the pumping speakers and lively crowd of LIV Golf, he is looking forward to more chat with those watching on.

"The fans are just absolutely amazing. I can't wait for the Open, and then also I can't wait to come back here and go at it with them again." Reed and his 4Aces teammates were back on the podium, after 2022 team champions prevailed in St Albans.

Paying tribute to his team, and captain Dustin Johnson, Reed commented: "Yeah, the week was a solid week. I felt like we were seeing a lot of those teams getting too close to us at the top of that board, and I felt like as a team we just weren't really getting the numbers we wanted to. I feel like this week meant a lot for us to go out and make a statement, and I feel like after that first round, we all really played some solid golf, from DJ through the entire team."
