Patrick Peterson’s Brock Purdy trash talk backfired in the worst possible way against Brandon Aiyuk

Patrick Peterson made headlines earlier this week when he predicted that he’d snag an interception off San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. The 49ers signal caller replied simply with a, “We’ll see.”

Indeed, those two words proved to be an understatement at Peterson’s expense as the 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers battled Sunday.

On San Francisco’s first drive, San Francisco receiver Brandon Aiyuk put a nasty juke on Peterson in the end zone that “broke his ankles” on a wide-open touchdown. Then, in the second quarter, Purdy dropped an absolute dime for Aiyuk, where he skied over Peterson for another ridiculous score. Suffice it to say, Purdy and Aiyuk indeed did the best trash-talking possible:

They humbled Peterson ON the field.

Phew. A 17-0 score just over a quarter into the game.

Next time, if I was Peterson, I might try to keep my reservations about Purdy private. It’s pretty clear Purdy and Co. took those comments personally. Or, at the very least, they singled Peterson out and made him pay for his words.

This was how Twitter reacted to Peterson's trash talk backfiring terribly
