Patrick Mahomes sends message to Damar Hamlin after first NFL game since cardiac arrest

Patrick Mahomes sent a message to Damar Hamlin after the Buffalo Bills star has thankfully made a remarkable recovery from suffering a cardiac arrest on Monday night.

In one of the scariest moments ever witnessed on television, Hamlin fell to the floor and required medical attention for 30 minutes during the game televised live, before he was taken to hospital for further treatment. CPR and a defibrillator was administered after Hamlin lost a pulse before regaining it, would undergo numerous treatments on hospital and being put on a breathing tube.

After just days, he made a remarkable recovery, and had his breathing tube removed on Friday before being able to communicate with his teammates later that day.

Support has flooded in worldwide for Hamlin since the incident, with the NFL world coming together after the scary scenes. And on Saturday night the first game since took place, with the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the Las Vegas Raiders, as both teams paid tribute to Hamlin.

Speaking after the game, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke about Hamlin, and how the incident has impacted his team and the NFL fraternity. He said: "This week, it's been hard for a lot of guys but to have him being able able to talk and be with his family gave us motivation. We just want to enjoy this game that we all love. We all send our love to him and hopefully he's back on the field sooner rather than later."

The idea of Hamlin returning to the NFL field has not been ruled out by the University of Cincinnati Health physicians Dr. Timothy Pritts and Dr. William Knight, who addressed the media on Thursday to give positive updates on his recovery thus far.

Hamlin took to social media on Saturday for the first time since the incident. He wrote: "When you put real love out into the world it comes back to you 3x's as much.

“The love has been overwhelming but I'm thankful for every single person that prayed for me and reached out. We brung (sic) the world back together behind this. If you know me you know this only gone make me stronger. On a long road keep praying for me!”

In a statement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said: "This has been a very difficult week. We continue to focus on the recovery of Damar Hamlin and are encouraged by the improvements in his condition as well as the tremendous outpouring of support and care for Damar and his family from across the country.

"We are also incredibly appreciative of the amazing work of the medical personnel and commend each and every one of them."
