Patrick Mahomes offered a preemptive apology to Chiefs fantasy managers for the 2022 NFL season

Patrick Mahomes will have to change up his game, at least a little, in 2022. Tyreek Hill, the All-Pro wide receiver who has been a staple of his passing offense for each of the last four seasons, is now a Miami Dolphin. Travis Kelce, who’ll turn 33 years old in October, is coming off the lowest yards per target mark of his career.

That will place a lot of emphasis on newcomers like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Ronald Jones and Isiah Pacheco to help carry the load of one of the NFL’s top offenses. Mahomes isn’t interested in playing favorites, either. He’s going to spread the ball around and, quite possibly, ruin your fantasy football roster in the process.

Hill’s departure has taken away some of Kansas City’s star power, but Mahomes will have the chance to work with one of his deepest receiving corps yet. That means a quarterback who previously lifted Demarcus Robinson and Chris Conley to 25-plus point fantasy performances will have proven starters as well as the tantalizing potential of guys like Moore and Mecole Hardman to fill out his depth chart.

Does that mean Kansas City’s skill players will be nearly untrustable in the regular season? Maybe. But there’s a very good chance Mahomes used a media question to pump up his teammates and get everyone on board no matter where they land on the depth chart.

Kelce, despite his veteran status, still showed out for 92 catches and nine touchdowns last season and will likely reign supreme over the rest the Chiefs’ skill players. Other than that? Well, that might come down to whomever Mahomes thinks has the hottest hand any given week.
