Patrick Mahomes got hit so hard on a frozen Kansas City night his Chiefs helmet shattered

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes experienced something quite rare on Saturday night in his frigid home AFC wild-card playoff game against the Miami Dolphins.

Mahomes got hit so hard by Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott on the side of his head that a piece of the quarterback’s helmet went flying off into the air and left a giant gap on said helmet.

It was absolutely startling to see this happen, much less to perhaps the most recognizable player in all of football.

This is just bewildering to watch occur in real-time, as the elements really played a major part in this collision.

It’s just not every day that you see a player’s helmet get smacked so hard that it cracks and sends a piece of that helmet flying off to the side.

We know these games are very competitive (and this game particularly cold), but this is just one of those startling sights that will always line up with this memorable playoff game in the 2024 NFL season.
