Patrick Mahomes Discusses How Ankle Injury Will Affect Offseason

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared to reinjure his right ankle during the second quarter of Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

However, the ailment didn’t keep Mahomes off the field at any point of the game. The Chiefs were able to win, 38–35, over the Eagles to capture their second Super Bowl title in the past four years. Mahomes, who was named Super Bowl MVP, also reportedly refused any treatment on his ankle during the Big Game, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

Even though Mahomes was able to play through the ankle injury on Sunday, there was initial concern with how the injury could affect his offseason training. Mahomes admitted in his Monday press conference that there’s nothing to worry about regarding his offseason timeline in regard to football.

“I’ll for sure be ready for OTAs and everything like that,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, we’ll continue to rehab, continue the treatment that we were doing, and just give it some rest. I think the best thing for it is going to be rest. Just try to make sure when we get to OTAs, I’m ready to go. One thing that might take a hit is my golf game. So I’ll take a few weeks off of that.”

Mahomes originally suffered the right ankle injury during the divisional round of the playoffs against the Jaguars. He missed one drive, but otherwise played the remainder of the game.
