Patrick Dangerfield will lead Geelong in a defence of their AFL premiership after his appointment as captain for the 2023 season.
Dangerfield will become Geelong's 54th VFL/AFL skipper - and the first new man in the role in 12 seasons - as he replaces retired club champion Joel Selwood at the helm.
Selwood, who was the AFL's longest-ever serving captain, brought an end to his decorated career after guiding the Cats to last season's premiership.
Defender Tom Stewart has been named vice-captain.
"Pat and Tom are wonderful representatives of a group of players who know what it takes to unlock excellence at the highest level of our sport," Geelong coach Chris Scott said in a club statement.
"When Pat arrived (at Geelong), he influenced our club for the better, on the field but most significantly off it.
"He has and will always strive to positively influence our people and our culture, which is ever evolving.
"He's found a way to embody who we want to be as a football department."
Dangerfield shared vice-captaincy duties with Stewart in 2022 and had been one of Selwood's deputies since 2017 - a year after he switched from Adelaide.
The 2016 Brownlow Medallist and eight-time All-Australian, said he was privileged to succeed Selwood.
"I'm incredibly lucky to be part of a group of players who push each other to great heights and support each other in all things," the 32-year-old said.
"Together as one in hoops we're excited to see where the next chapter in our journey takes us."
