Patrick Beverley says decision came between Bulls and Warriors after buyout with Magic

Following the NBA trade deadline, the free agent buyout market is heating up around the league. Veteran players like Reggie Jackson, Terrance Ross and Kevin Love have recently signed with different contenders via the buyout market.

The latest veteran to find a home before a push to the playoffs is defensive star, Patrick Beverley. On his podcast, The Pat Bev Pod via Barstool Sports, the former Los Angeles Lakers guard confirmed he would be signing with the Chicago Bulls.

However, Beverley says his decision came between the Warriors and the Bulls.

It was between Golden State and the Bulls. Obviously, you know it’s always good to play with a lot of great talent in Golden State, but you know, a lot of guards over there. So, I figured I could make a playoff push with the Bulls right now.

Beverley credited how Golden State’s front office handled his decision. He said he appreciated the opportunity the Warriors presented.

They kept it real with me, like, ‘We don’t want you to wait, Pat, if this is an opportunity you want to take, you know, go ahead, we respect it, we know there’s a lot of teams after you,’ You know, so, I felt like the Bulls were the best fit. I appreciate Golden State. I appreciate the opportunity that was there, if it was there. It worked out the way it was supposed to.

In 45 games with the Lakers, Beverley averaged 6.4 points on 40.2% shooting from the field and 34.8% shooting from beyond the arc with 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 26.9 minutes per contest.
