Patrick Bamford's 'terrible' loan spell revisited ahead of Leeds United reunion

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could be set to return to manager Jesse Marsch's starting XI in this weekend's fixture against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park but it won't be a happy reunion for Bamford.

The 29-year-old went on loan to the Eagles while under contract at Chelsea in 2015 but only made nine appearances for Palace and went goalless in that spell.

Both sides are coming into this weekend's fixture without a win in their last four games and will look to return to winning ways to climb up the Premier League table.

Speaking to the Evening Standard Sport last year, Bamford spoke about how he felt going from playing well for Middlesbrough to not feeling confident in a Palace shirt.

"It was a slight setback but, if anything, I probably learned more from it than I realised I actually had to. I went from playing in a Middlesbrough team in the Championship, winning Player of the Year, to thinking that I would walk into the Premier League and do the same.

"I was a little bit naïve. It probably did set me back but, ultimately, if I didn’t get over it then [an England call-up] might have happened at a later stage of my career.

"It is nothing that I regret. It’s just been a learning process. It has taken a while to get to where I wanted to be – but eventually I did."
