Patricia Arquette recently reflected on her experience filming a nude scene for the 1997 movie Lost Highway. Speaking at the Series Mania Festival in Lille, France, the Oscar winner, now 55, shared her apprehensions about the scene, particularly due to crew members making inappropriate comments.
Arquette described feeling extremely modest and even bathing in the dark to maintain her privacy. She found the prospect of stripping for the scene terrifying, especially with crew members making crude remarks. When she voiced her discomfort to director David Lynch, he promptly addressed the situation, leading the crew to apologize.
During another instance on set, Arquette asserted her boundaries while filming a sex scene by insisting it be a closed set. She made it clear that she would not tolerate unnecessary onlookers and even warned a co-star about appropriate conduct.
In Lost Highway, Arquette portrayed the character Renee Madison alongside a talented cast that included Bill Pullman, Robert Blake, and others. Despite her initial phobia of nudity, Arquette took on the role, but the experience did not alleviate her discomfort.
Arquette also delved into her preparation for the role, which involved visiting unconventional clubs to understand power dynamics and expressions. She mentioned exploring a dominatrix establishment where she observed interactions that informed her portrayal of Renee/Alice's experiences.
Reflecting on the filming process, Arquette admitted that she still struggles with watching the nude scenes in the film, indicating that her fear of nudity persists despite her efforts to confront it during production.
