Patrice Evra predicts Arsenal title push with Man Utd to surprise amid 'weird' Chelsea verdict

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has tipped Arsenal to be involved in 'one of the tightest' Premier League title races ever.

Mikel Arteta's side have surprised many with their impressive form to start the new campaign as they currently sit top of the table after seven games. The Gunners head into the international break one point ahead of reigning champions Manchester City and north London rivals Tottenham.

Arsenal tasted defeat for the first time this season in a 3-1 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford but bounced back in style with a comfortable victory away to Brentford. Arsenal's strength in depth was highlighted as summer signing Fabio Vieira impressed on his official Premier League debut, scoring a brilliant goal from range whilst Kieran Tierney continued to stake a claim to start ahead of Oleksandr Zinchenko in defence.

Ex-United defender Evra believes that rivals Liverpool and City remain favourites for this season's Premier League title, but the performances of the Gunners, United, Spurs and Chelsea could lead to one of the tightest title races in history. Speaking to Betfair, the French icon said: "It's a crazy Premier League, there have been a lot of surprises.

"The favourites were Liverpool and City, but anything can happen. More games are coming and I always say you know more around December, but now we've got the World Cup. So, everything is weird.

Erik ten Hag's side are the only team to beat Arsenal this season and have turned a corner since beating Liverpool earlier this season. The Gunners remain at the front of the pack, but a hectic October fixture schedule will put a strain on Arteta's side with the demands of the Europa League group stage causing havoc in the lead-up to the World Cup in November.

"I think City and Liverpool are still the favourites, but you have so many others too including Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Although, it's really weird with Chelsea at the moment," Evra added.

"United can surprise people now if they keep fighting like the way they have been doing, they can be there. Every team is tough, playing against Crystal Palace you're going to struggle, playing against Newcastle you're going to struggle, every game is going to be tough.

"I don't think we will see a massive points difference, like the winner of the league won't be 20 points or 10 points in front, like in previous years. It's going to be tough and it's difficult to say who's going to win the league. I keep saying what I said at the start of the season, Liverpool and City are the favourites."
