Patrice Evra has revealed he used to refer to Arsenal as Manchester United’s “babies” but fears the roles have been reversed.
Mikel Arteta takes his side to Old Trafford on Sunday in what looks a huge test of their Premier League title credentials, albeit against a United side who are yet to fully convince under Erik ten Hag.
While United are coming into Sunday’s clash off the back of three wins, it remains to be seen how they fare against one of the Premier League’s leading sides in top form, with their victory over Liverpool coming during a difficult period for Jurgen Klopp.
Still, any win at Old Trafford would likely be a huge statement of intent for the victor, particularly if Arsenal can extend their winning run to the opening six games of the season.
Evra played for United during a period in which they dominated the Gunners, though Arsenal have at least won three of their six games against their rivals.
Speaking to Betfair, Evra said: “Arsenal are in great form, they are winning ugly games and that’s what is scaring me. Against Fulham, it wasn’t a good game but they won. Let’s be clear, Arsenal fear Man United, there’s a massive history between the two.
“I used to call them ‘our babies’, now it’s the other way round and we’re looking more like the babies. This is going to be a tough one and talking with my heart I’ll say United, but anything can happen.”
