Patrice Evra confronts Anthony Martial with two demands after Man Utd win and goal

Patrice Evra has urged Anthony Martial to score "more goals" after the Frenchman struck his fifth of the season in Manchester United's 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

The Red Devils ran out comfortable winners at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Martial and Fred as Erik ten Hag's side closed the gap on fourth-place Tottenham to just a point. It was an excellent performance from United, who have won their first two matches after the restart without conceding a goal.

United progressed into the Carabao Cup quarter-final by beating Championship table-toppers Burnley 2-0 last Wednesday and Erik ten Hag's men look like they have come back in tip-top shape. Martial is someone who has returned sharp and is ready to cement his place in the XI following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Having struggled with injuries and fitness issues in recent years, Martial is keen to put them problems behind him and Evra has told the 25-year-old he wants him to stay fit. Martial started as the lone forward in United's win over Forest with Rashford and Antony either side.

He told Amazon Prime Sport: "I am happy with Martial and I talked with him after the game. I said that I want more goals from him.

"I also told him that I want him to stay fit. It is really important and I think that is why the manager took him off. He wants to take care of his fitness, as well."

Although Evra wanted to speak about Martial, he also detailed his admiration for Casemiro, who was awarded with the Man of the Match award for a terrific performance. The ex-United left-back described Casemiro as a "soldier" after what was a dominating display in midfield.

Evra added: "Casemiro was my man of the match. What a soldier! He was doing everything. He was the one doing that amazing tackle.

"Let's not forget Bruno Fernandes here with the pass to Marcus Rashford. With his quality, like we say, on the wing he is more effective with putting the ball across to Martial."

Meanwhile, Ten Hag added: "It is a pleasure to work with Casemiro and everyone sees how important his role is and the level he brings into the team. I think the players grow into the season and I think they performed well in the World Cup and now they continue. Stay in the performance, stay in the level, keep progressing game to game.

"It is important in football today that you score from set plays and don't concede from them, we have to be good in them. It decides games."
