Emergency services attended a reported ambulance fire in Swansea on Good Friday. Fire crews attended Fabian Way just after 6pm on Friday, April 7, following a report that an ambulance vehicle was on fire.
Footage from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing from the vehicle with what appeared to be crew members removing equipment from the ambulance. A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust said the vehicle was being used by Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) staff, all of whom are accounted for, when smoke was noticed in the cab area of the ambulance.. A patient that was being transferred when the incident took place has safely arrived in hospital.
They added: "A duty operational manager has attended and removed the oxygen and drugs from the vehicle. No Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST) crews on board, all EMRTS staff are accounted for, and the patient that was being transferred has safely arrived at hospital."
A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed they had sent one appliance to reports of an ambulance fire just after 6pm. Onlookers reported smoke visible from some distance away while there was some brief traffic disruption as the incident was dealt with.
