It’s not training camp, but it’s still intense.
The Denver Broncos started organized team activities last month and the OTAs are scheduled to continue through June 10 (full offseason schedule). It’s not in full pads and there’s not contact, but it’s still important spring work ahead of the summer.
“It’s been very competitive so far,” cornerback Pat Surtain said last week. “We’ve been going at it for sure. Offense vs. defense — we’re just doing good on good. Iron sharpens iron, so we’re making plays and the offense is making plays. It’s just good battles going on right now.”
After OTAs wrap up next week, the Broncos will hold a mandatory minicamp from June 13-15. Following that minicamp, players will get a summer break before reporting back for training camp in late July.
Surtain plans to continue working on the “little things” during the break.
“The best thing that I can do is to be able to work on little bits and things — little pieces of my game or add little bits and pieces to my game,” the cornerback said. “That’s the best things. Also, work on things that you know you’re good at, but you know that you can improve on, too. Just that little bit of management for myself. That’s what I’ll be able to do.”
The action will really heat up when Denver starts training camp in July. The team’s camp schedule should be announced sometime this month.
