Pat Nevin names Liverpool player he 'would pay to watch every week'

Pat Nevin has heaped praise on Roberto Firmino by admitting he would pay to watch him every week.

Firmino started against West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday with Liverpool picking up their third consecutive win and climbing up to seventh in the Premier League thanks to Darwin Nunez' 22nd-minute header - his first goal at Anfield since joining in the summer.

Compared to some standout performances in recent weeks, Firmino was relatively quiet in the 1-0 victory over Hammers, but the 31-year-old still produced some effortlessly elegant link-up play in the 'hole' behind Nunez - a role he is seemingly loving. And despite the Uruguayan striker grabbing the headlines with his goal and Mohamed Salah looking some way back to his best, former Everton and Chelsea winger Nevin singled out Firmino for a 'superb' first-half performance.

“West Ham got the penalty kick so they know they can create chances," Nevin told BBC 5 Live at half-time, after Alisson had denied Jarrod Bowen from the spot. "Then they got a chance from the corner kick as well. It would have been grotesquely unfair if Liverpool had been level at half-time because they played really well there.

“Nunez caught the eye with a goal and the two chances that he had. Salah looks good but Firmino… I would pay to watch that every week. He was superb.”

Firmino is arguably enjoying some of his best goalscoring form since joining Liverpool in 2015, having scored eight times in 14 appearances across all competitions this season as he fights for a spot in Brazil's World Cup squad. The former Hoffenheim man has been enjoying a new role at times this season, with Jurgen Klopp deploying his playmaker behind a leading man in Nunez instead of his trademark false-nine role.
