The next host of the Late Late Show will be a woman, Pat Kenny has predicted.
After RTE's announcement earlier this week that Ryan Tubridy will step down as the programme’s presenter, there have been many rumours that the new host will be a woman - from bookies' predictions to Ryan himself wishing his successor well, "whoever she may be". Now Newstalk's Pat Kenny - who also presented the Late Late Show for 10 years in the past - is joining the speculation.
No woman has ever presented the programme on a permanent basis and Mr Kenny said management at RTE would not want another man. He said: “Would they dare give it to a man in this day and age? The inevitability of social history would determine [that] irrespective of talents - and there are many talented women and men out there - it’ll be a woman.”

Mr Kenny also said, based on his own experience, that it is best to leave the job on a high. “When you interview Sinéad O’Connor five times and Westlife six times - or whatever it is - it can become repetitive,” he said. “So, if you can quit while you’re ahead and do something else - great.”
Ryan Tubridy will present the Late Late Show for the last time on May 26.
