Passengers fume as 'holiday ruined' after TUI ditches 28 hold bags to lighten plane

Holidaymakers have been left without their clothes and essentials after their hold bags were taken off the plane - because it was overloaded.

Ann Duncan was one of the unlucky customers to arrive in Tenerife only to discover her bag had been left in Aberdeen.

The Scotswoman said she had been left with nothing for the week holiday, which she'd been looking forward to after two difficult years of pandemic.

" TUI you’re an absolute joke!" Ann fumed.

"I arrived in Tenerife last night to be told my case, along with 27 others, had been taken off the aircraft because the plane was too heavy.

"How dare you let me continue my journey to be told this at my destination. My holiday is only for one week and I have nothing.

"We have all had a terrible time the last couple of years and have all been so looking forward to a holiday.

"Well TUI you have completely ruined mine. I was told tonight the worst scenario is that I will have to pick my case up in Aberdeen on my return.

"And I was also told I can 'try' and claim back for the things I have to buy - toiletries excluded, you get money for that.

"I sure will be avoiding TUI in future as this holiday so far is a disaster, I doubt there will be compensation towards another break."

Elaine Gibson was on the same flight along with her husband, whose case did not arrive.

"We have not got my husband's case," she said.

"We are fizzing to say the least. I was told on Monday our cases will be with us on Tuesday. Wednesday night now and still nothing."

TUI has been contacted for comment.

Earlier this week Jill O'Callaghan told of how she was in a state of “angst and worry” after her suitcase went missing as she flew to Mallorca, leaving her to rack up £700 on her credit card buying essential items like clothes.

The 54-year-old flew to Palma from Manchester on Tuesday - but her suitcase wasn't brought on the plane with her.

Despite numerous calls and emails to airline TUI, which said her luggage would arrive on the next flight over, her bags had still not arrived as of Saturday, Manchester Evening News reports.

Left with just the items she wore on the plane for a few days, Jill has since spent £700 buying essential clothes, cosmetics and car hire to last her until the end of her holiday.

She has been left in a state of angst and worry, not just for the suitcase, but due to the fact her late mother’s compact mirror was amongst her belongings.

Jill is now desperately seeking answers as to where her luggage is and has raised concerns about the impending increase of holidaymakers through the airport over the school holidays.

We don’t know if my luggage is lost. We are disappointed with the airport," she said.

"We are here until a week on Saturday and if we don’t hear back from them I’m worried my suitcase is lost.

“I keep thinking if someone was travelling with their children or had medication in their suitcase.

"We are trying our best to make the best of our holiday. We just keep trying to get answers.

“My fear is that we will get home and they’ll deliver it when we are home."

A TUI spokesperson said: We would like to apologise to our customers who experienced issues with their luggage on flight TOM1718 from Aberdeen to Tenerife on Sunday.

"This was due to a performance issue which meant that unfortunately some of the luggage had to be offloaded before departure.

"We can confirm that the offloaded luggage was sent on an alternative flight and arrived in Tenerife shortly after."
