In a recent and unusual incident at Mexico City airport, a man took a bold step by storming out of a plane and walking onto its wing. While some may see this as a reckless and dangerous act, the man has found support from his fellow passengers.
The AeroMexico flight had been sitting on the tarmac for a frustrating four hours when the unnamed passenger made his daring exit. However, according to airport officials, he swiftly re-entered the cabin 'without affecting the aircraft or anyone else' before surrendering himself to the police.
Surprisingly, many of the passengers on board came to the man's defense and insisted that he had acted to protect everyone, with their full support. In fact, approximately 77 passengers signed a written statement explaining that the airline had kept them waiting for hours without any ventilation or water. The delay, bound for Guatemala, had apparently created conditions that endangered the health of those on board.
'He saved our lives,' the written statement proclaimed, grateful for the actions of the man they now commend. An incident report filed with airport authorities mostly confirmed the passengers' version of events, shedding light on their dissatisfaction.
The report stated that a disturbance began around 11:37 a.m., caused by passengers' discontent on flight AM672, a Mexican airline service. Originally scheduled to depart at 8:45 a.m., the flight experienced a maintenance alert, requiring the captain to return to the gate for necessary repairs. The passengers' unhappiness with the situation led one individual to open the emergency door and step out onto the wing. Consequently, the plane needed to be changed.
The man responsible for this audacious act remains unidentified, and it is unclear whether he remains in custody or faces charges. The airport authorities have refrained from providing any comment on this matter.
Flight tracking records confirm that flight AM672 to Guatemala City experienced a considerable delay of 4 hours and 56 minutes on Thursday. A video taken on board the flight captured passengers fanning themselves and requesting water from the flight attendant in response to the uncomfortable conditions caused by the delay.
In a statement, the airport clarified that 'yesterday a passenger on a flight to Guatemala opened an emergency door on a plane while it was stationary at a remote position, stood on a wing, and then re-entered the cabin, without affecting the aircraft or anyone else.' They added that 'in line with international security regulations, this person turned himself over to the authorities.'
While this event may seem unconventional and potentially dangerous, it has surely sparked a debate regarding passenger rights and the importance of adequate provisions during lengthy flight delays. The incident serves as a reminder that passenger comfort and safety should always be prioritized in such situations.
