A Russian-made passenger plane experienced a frightening incident at Antalya Airport in southern Turkey on Sunday. The Turkish transport ministry confirmed that the engine of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 caught fire after landing. Fortunately, all 89 passengers and six crew members on board were safely evacuated from the aircraft, which had arrived from the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.
Following the landing, authorities at the airport took swift action to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Landings were temporarily suspended until 3 a.m. local time as the plane was towed away from the runway. Videos shared on social media and by the transport ministry depicted the intense response of emergency units, with flames and smoke visible from the engine of the aircraft.
Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the fire, using foam to cool down the left-side engine of the plane. The efforts of the emergency responders were crucial in preventing further damage and ensuring the well-being of the passengers and crew.
According to the Antalya Airport website, the flight was operated by Azimuth Airlines and had originated from Sochi. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and quick action in responding to emergencies in the aviation industry.
